POACHER MORRIS
Lincoln's finest and original Border Morris Team
Who are we?
We are a mixed Border Morris team based in Lincoln, with team members travelling across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire to dance with us.Poacher was formed in 1995 and takes it's name from the folk song ' The Lincolnshire Poacher'.We perform the dances of the Welsh Border tradition in our own wild and exuberant style. As a border team we carry on the tradition of disguise, with our own distinct colours, black to represent the border tradition and yellow for the Lincolnshire Yellowbelly, a person born and bred within the county of which many of the team are! Our costume of colourful ragcoats and top hats is taken from descriptions of late 19th century dancers.
Throughout the year the side dances at local events ,Morris weekends and major festivals, from wassailing the cider orchards in January to performing at the Lincoln Christmas Market.
