POACHER MORRIS
Lincoln's Finest And Original Border Morris Team
Who are we?
We are a mixed border morris team based in Lincoln, with team members travelling across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire to dance with us.
Poacher was formed in 1995 and we take our name from the song 'The Lincolnshire Poacher'.We perform the dances of the Welsh Border tradition in our own wild exuberant style, much influenced by Shropshire Bedlams and Witchmen.
As a border side we carry on the tradition of disguise with our own distinctive colours. Black to represent the border tradition and yellow for the Lincolnshire yellowbelly, a person born and bred within the county of which many of the team are!
Our costume of colourful rag coats and decorated top hats are taken from descriptions of late 19th centenary dancers.
